However, this drug does not replace rest, exercise, physical therapy, or any other treatments that your doctor may recommend for your medical condition.
Carisoprodol relaxes skeletal muscles. It relaxes muscles by affecting the central nervous system (CNS).

Carisoprodol, meprobamate, and related medicines such as tybamate have the potential to cause barbiturate-type physical dependence after chronic use. In medically compromised people, withdrawal from the medication after extensive use may necessitate hospitalization. In severe situations, the withdrawal symptoms can match those of alcohol withdrawal, including potentially fatal status epilepticus.
Carisoprodol use has also been associated to psychological dependence[19], however this is far less severe than with meprobamate (because to the later onset of effects). Psychological dependence is more likely in people who use carisoprodol recreationally or have a history of substance abuse (especially sedatives or alcohol). It may have clinical importance before physiological tolerance and reliance have developed and (like with benzodiazepines) has been proven to be effective.
