Those who have developed tolerance to an opioid of equal potency should take AVINZA 90 mg or 120 mg capsules. Opioid-tolerant people have used at least 60 mg oral morphine per day, 25 mcg transdermal fentanyl per hour, 30 mg oral oxycodone per day, 8 mg oral hydromorphone per day, 25 mg oral oxycodone per day, or an equianalgesic dose of another opioid for at least one week.

During pregnancy, Avinza should be used only as indicated. It is not advised to use it near the expected delivery date due to the potential for fetal harm. Babies born to mothers who have used this medication for a long time may develop withdrawal symptoms, including irritability, unusual or consistent crying, vomiting, or diarrhea. Notify your doctor if you see any of these symptoms in your newborn. This medicine passes into breast milk and, in rare situations, can harm a breastfeeding newborn. Notify your doctor if your infant exhibits unusual tiredness, trouble feeding, or respiratory problems. Consult your doctor before beginning nursing. If you suddenly stop taking Avinza (morphine), you may have withdrawal symptoms.

Some medications can interact with morphine, resulting in a dangerous illness known as serotonin syndrome. Make sure your doctor is aware if you are also using stimulant medication, herbal items, or medication for depression, mental illness, Parkinson’s disease, migraine headaches, serious infections, or nausea and vomiting prevention.
