Atarax (Hydroxyzine) 25mg

If you routinely use any other medications that induce sleep, such as sedatives, narcotic pain relievers, sleeping pills, muscle relaxants, cold or allergy medications, or medications for anxiety, depression, or seizures, let your doctor know before using Atarax. They may intensify atarax-induced drowsiness.

Other medications may interact with hydroxyzine; this list is not exhaustive. Inform your physician of all the medications you use. Prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products fall under this category. Never take a new drug without first consulting your physician.

What is the duration of hydroxyzine’s effectiveness?

Although hydroxyzine takes about 15 to 30 minutes to start working, it can cause drowsiness that lasts for up to 6 hours. For up to four days, hydroxyzine can lessen redness and irritation brought on by allergy skin testing. Hydroxyzine is used as a premedication before surgery, to reduce anxiety, and to treat allergy-related itching. If this medication makes you drowsy, avoid operating machinery, driving, or performing other duties that need attention.
